10:00 [10:30] States of Independence: A Book Fair in a Day (Ext event)
Seventy writers, mostly from the East Midlands, will be reading from their work at an events programme to accompany an equal number of staff from independent publishers and writing organisations staffing bookstalls and displaying their work. The programme is at http://www.statesofindependence.co.uk/#prog. Learn everything you need to know about zines, steampunk, William Burroughs, future fiction, murder in Leicester, allotments, Joe Orton, Israel and Palestine, Graham Joyce's books, and Doctor Who. Throw in a good dollop of poetry, along with the history of the English "race" and the rebirth of vinyl, and add the announcement of the East Midlands Book Award shortlist, and you've got a recipe for a great day out. All sessions are free, no tickets required. Just turn up and stay for an hour or two, or the whole day. States of Independence is organised and funded by Five Leaves Publications in Nottingham and the Leicester Centre for Creative Writing at De Montfort University, Leicester. See http://www.statesofindependence.co.uk/
