18:00 Category: LSS - Secular Hall - Public event[18:30] LSS: Ned Newitt - History of Secular Hall (Anniversary Event)
Event to mark the anniversary of the opening of Secular Hall in March 1881. THE HISTORY OF SECULAR HALL Ned Newitt will talk about the history of Secular Hall. "Although the history of Leicester Secular Society is well documented, little has been published on the history of Secular Hall itself. "Drawing on images from the Society's archives and some new research, Ned is preparing a book on the history of the Hall. It will include sections on the stained glass, tiles, sculpture and decorative features as well as changes it has undergone since 1881. "It is hoped that this book can show what needs to be done to restore the Hall sympathetically and also serve as a guide for those who will continue to manage the building in the years to come." Ned edits our journal the Leicester Secularist: http://leicestersecularsociety.org.uk/newsletter/ . Please bring some food or drink to share and enjoy a slice of birthday cake. All welcome - Free entry
