19:00 Category: External event featuring LSS member(s)[19:30] University of Leicester Sinfonia (ext event)
Description:
Our member Michael Sackin, who conducts the University of Leicester Sinfonia sends this announcement: Old Favourites and Unfamiliar Gems MENDELSSOHN Overture: Die schöne Melusine, Op.32 BRUCH Violin Concerto No. 1 in G major, Op.26 LEÓ WEINER Serenade in F minor for Small Orchestra, Op.3 SONJA GROSSNER Humoresque (version for small orchestra) HAYDN Symphony No. 70 in D major "This is a concert of delightful Classical and Romantic masterpieces, plus a short, quite light, work by a member of the orchestra who is a prolific composer. We welcome back Eleanor Wilkinson who has given memorable performances of various violin concertos in recent years with the Sinfonia. This time she plays Bruch’s G minor Concerto, a perennial favourite. An extremely appealing rarity will be the Serenade for Small Orchestra by the Hungarian composer Leó Weiner, and the concert ends with a wonderful, out-of-the-way Haydn symphony. The concert opens with Mendelssohn’s charming overture: The Fair Melusine." Tickets £10 (full price), £8 (OAPs and unemployed), £3 for students and people aged 18 and under Tickets from Attenborough Arts Centre: https://uk.patronbase.com/_AttenboroughArts/Productions/X202/Performances or 0116 252 2455), or Visit Leicester Information, 51 Gallowtree Gate, Leicester LE1 5AD (t: 0844 888 5181), or on the door.
