19:00 [19:00] Public Meeting: Asylum Seekers (ext event)
Public Meeting: Asylum Seekers Called by Leicester Civil Rights Movement Since the 2014 Immigration Act refugees have been kept in continuous insecurity having to renew their applications after 2 1/2 or 3 years, with their cases reviewed again at 5 years. Fees and health costs have increased considerably. Citizenship is very difficult to achieve. Asylum seekers and refugees can’t participate in society. This year refugees renewing their applications are being given no recourse to public funds. Some have been successfully challenged. We are collecting information on the situation. Sponsored by Leicester and District Trades Union Council Speakers: Rita, Migrant Rights Network; Chris Willars, President LDTUC; Lamek Mbano, Leicester Civil Rights Movement. Contact: Leicester Civil Rights Movement, c/o 96 Melbourne Road, Leicester. Tel Priya 2531053 See also "The Refugee Crisis: 3 Years on" (20 September): http://lsec.org.uk/calendar/view_entry.php?id=2210
