17:00 [17:00] Leicester’s Sixth Low Carbon Lecture (ext event)
Description:
Leicester’s Sixth Low Carbon Lecture (details tba) The main speaker will be Polly Billington, Director of the UK:100 - a network of UK cities and local authorities committed to 100% clean energy. She was special adviser to Ed Miliband when the Department of Energy and Climate Change was established, an adviser to him as Leader of the Opposition and a parliamentary candidate in Thurrock in 2015. After that General Election she was Director of Communications on Sadiq Khan’s selection campaign to be Labour’s candidate for London Mayor. She devised and led the 100% London campaign, getting both Zac Goldsmith and Sadiq Khan to commit to London adopting 100% clean energy. Leicester’s Annual Low Carbon Lecture has been incorporated into the Leicester Urban Observatory programme. The Leicester Urban Observatory is a collaboration between urban practitioners at Leicester City Council and academics at three local universities: De Montfort University, University of Leicester, and Loughborough University. It is establishing a combined centre of excellence in urban studies and planning for Leicester. Mainstreaming the lecture into the Urban Observatory lecture series ensures that climate change issues will be fully integrated with all the other urban issues that are being considered through the programme and will enable the climate change mitigation and adaptation agendas to be shared with a wide range of practitioners as well as interested residents in the city. The next lecture is being scheduled for Wednesday 13th February 2019 to fit with the Urban Observatory programme. We do hope you will save the date now, with further details of registration, etc. (essential) to follow.
