Hiroshima Day - Remembering 1945 (ext events)
The USA remains the only country to have used a nuclear weapon against a civilian population. "a truly NEVER AGAIN moment: 135,000 died instantly or in the months and years that followed from blast injuries and radiation (never forget the radiation...); "the Hiroshima bomb counts today as a small bomb, the kind that Donald Trump thinks we can use as a battlefield weapon." - EMCND leaflet 8am: Silent Vigil "Leicester CND will be marking Hiroshima Day by meeting at the clock tower at 8am, each of us dressed in black and holding a white flower. At 8.10 when the bomb exploded someone will fall to the ground and be chalked around. Someone will give flyers and talk to passers by while the rest of hold a silent vigil. We will stay there til approx 8.30." 9:30: Poetry and Readings At 9.30 we will meet at the cherry tree at the top of Peace Walk for poetry and readings for approximately half an hour. Later, Derby Some of us will be going to an East Midlands CND demonstration outside the Rolls Royce factory in Derby in the afternoon and in the evening in Derby there will be a talk by Ian Fairlie 'From Hiroshima to Fukushima - the link between the civil and military nuclear industries'.
