Description:
Journey to Justice: Framing Stories of Social Justice in Leicester George Lewis In October 2019, Journey to Justice will showcase stories of local social justice movements from and in Leicester. How can we best explore and ensure its legacy? The national Journey to Justice exhibition will come to Attenborough Arts Leicester, 11-27 October 2019, where it will form the hub of a city-wide Festival of Social Justice. The national exhibition showcases lesser known stories form the Civil Rights Movement in the USA, but anchors itself in each city that it visits by supplementing those better-known stories with locally-sourced (and locally researched) stories of social justice from the host city that will be fully integrated with that travelling exhibition. This talk will explore how we have – thus far – sourced those Leicester stories, but also how we are seeking to build a lasting legacy in the city. Journey to Justice seeks to galvanize people through learning about social justice activism and movements. It also aims to leave a “foot print” from which future generations can continue to learn and to be inspired.
