Humanity Of Brindisi (1991) Day (for info)
- Description:
- "They are just hungry and cold - help them" - Giuseppe Marchionna, Mayor of Brindisi.
Short thread on events of 7 March 1991, when the 90,000 people of Brindisi woke up to find 25,000 Albanians roaming the streets of their town. For perspective, that's roughly equivalent to 25k people suddenly landing in Hastings (h/t @fcbaribrit for reminding me of this episode)>

[18:30] LSS: Emma Wadsworth-Jones - The non-religious at risk
- Description:
- Anniversary Lecture (140 years since the opening of Secular Hall)
"The non-religious at risk; supporting Humanists abroad"
with Emma Wadsworth-Jones
In her talk, Emma will explore the myriad challenges that the non-religious across the globe face in everyday life and what the humanist community is doing to support them.
Emma joined Humanists International (https://humanists.international/) as its first Humanists at Risk Coordinator in April 2020. She is responsible for managing Humanists International’s casework and campaigning activities on behalf of humanists at risk, working in coordination with the rest of the team and our members and partners.
Before joining Humanists International, Emma gained more than seven years experience in casework and campaigning across Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Middle East at PEN International (https://pen-international.org).
** This anniversary lecture marks the 140th opening of the Secular Hall in Leicester (and a year since we have been able to meet there! We originally planned for the event to have a social element (food, drink and birthday cake) but we hope we will be able to re-arrange an alternative in September.
Thank you all for your continued support during a difficult year.
You are welcome to participate for free, but will need the joining information in our weekly email. Sign up at http://leicestersecularsociety.org.uk/register/?p=subscribe&id=1
