LSS: Nasrin Parvaz - One Woman's Struggle in Iran: A Prison Memoir

Description: One Woman's Struggle in Iran: A Prison Memoir

Speaker: Nasrin Parvaz

The story of Nasrin's imprisonment for eight years by the Islamic government of Iran.

The secular and progressive ‘People’s Revolution’ in Iran against the Shah, was defeated by the Islamic Regime of Ayatollah Khomeini. Thousands were imprisoned and tortured and many were executed simply for wanting a secular state.

Nasrin has spoken and written widely on human rights violations. She is also a poet and painter. She will show some images of paintings inspired by her imprisonment.

After her release she fled to the UK where she claimed asylum in 1993. She was granted refugee status a year later, and has since lived in London. She studied for a degree in Psychology and subsequently gained an MA in International Relations.
