LSS: Greg Scorzo - The art of thinking (discussion series)

Description: THE ART OF THINKING – GREG SCORCZO - SPRING 2019

The 'Art of Thinking' sessions are run by philosopher Dr Greg Scorzo, editor of 'Culture on the Offensive' (https://www.cultureontheoffensive.com/).

In this session Dr Scorzo asks

"How should we describe racism?"

In this session, we will discuss two contrasting conceptions of racism: systemic racism, and psychological racism.

Psychological racism is when an assumption about a person’s character is motivated not by the person, but by the racial demographic they belong to. Systemic racism is when the structural inequalities in society function as though there is psychological racism, even when there might not be. It is normally thought that the two conceptions of racism can co-exist alongside each other, but it might be the case that they cancel each other out.

Followed by open exploration, discussion, debate and tea.

No experience of academic philosophy is needed. Each session stands alone – come to as many as you wish.

Admission £3 on the door, no booking necessary.
