Stansted 15: "Solidarity - Deportation, Resistance, Criminalisation (ext event)

Description: The Stansted 15 in Conversation: "Deportation, Resistance and the Criminalisation of Solidarity"

Lyndsay Burtonshaw and Nick Sigsworth, members of the Stansted 15 will be speaking at Deportation, Resistance, and the Criminalisation of Solidarity, a roundtable discussion taking place on Wednesday, 27 March 2019, starting at 5pm, at the University of Leicester (Attenborough Building, Basement Lecture Theatre 1).

The Stansted 15ers will be speaking alongside:
● Two or three people who have experienced life in immigration detention
● Steven Cammiss who observed the Stansted 15's trial and is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Law at the University of Leicester
● Graeme Hayes who has an active interest in the criminal trials of social movement activists and is a Reader in Political Sociology at Aston University in Birmingham, and
● Roda Madziva, an Assistant Professor in the School of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Nottingham, who has researched issues around migration and the experience of people in the asylum system in UK, with particular reference to those from Zimbabwe.

The roundtable conversation will be followed by a discussion with groups that support people in Leicester who are experiencing or going through the country's immigration and asylum system.

The Stansted 15 in Conversation: "Deportation, Resistance, and the Criminalisation of Solidarity" is free and open to all and will be chaired by Sheila Mosley from the Leicester Quakers, and Gaja Maestri and Pierre Monforte from GRASP (Group of Research on Activism, Social Movements and Protest) at the University of Leicester.
