Description: | Peterloo Massacre bicentenary event 6:30pm Red Leicester Choir open with some numbers from their repertoire, followed by 7pm Bob Forder - "The Heroism of Richard and Jane Carlile with particular reference to Peterloo." Doors open 6pm. Admission free. Richard and Jane Carlile are among the very bravest of our freethinking ancestors. In his talk Bob Forder will assess the Carliles' careers with particular reference to Peterloo. "The Peterloo Massacre took place at St Peter's Field, Manchester, England, on 16 August 1819, when cavalry charged into a crowd of 60,000–80,000 who had gathered to demand the reform of parliamentary representation." - Wikipedia Tea and biscuits provided.
