Hosted by Building Better Hospitals for the Future, the NHS organisation planning a "once in a lifetime" £450m reorganisation of hospital provision for Leicester, Leicestershire, and much of the East Midlands beyond.

While welcoming much of the scheme, Save Our NHS Leicestershire has serious reservations about the adequacy of some aspects, including closure of Leicester General Hospital for acute treatment, closure of a midwife-led maternity unit, concentration of even more beds in the already congested LRI site, whether the modest increase in beds will meet the needs of expected population growth, sale of NHS land to the private sector, and lack of clarity as to how and where various services will be provided in the community.
